How to Put a Character Behind an Object

Some of the backgrounds in the studio are plain images while some are made up of grouped layers.

Working with a background that is made up of grouped layers allows you to place characters behind objects (e.g. table, chair, shelf, etc) for a more realistic effect.

How can I tell if a background is a plain image?

When you drag the background from the library, the element that shows in the timeline says "Image".

Example:

How can I tell if a background is made up of grouped layers?

The element in the timeline shows this icon: This means that this background can be ungrouped and you can put your character behind objects.

To ungroup this type of background, right-click on it > select ungroup

It should reveal the different layers in the timeline

In this example, the computer and table are individual objects that can be moved around or removed from the scene.

To put a character behind an object:

Pick your character from the library and drag it to the canvas.

In the timeline, click and grab the character's layer and place it below the objects.
The character then appears to be behind them.
